Business, Labor Leaders Endorse Peter Spadafore for Lansing City Council At-Large Bid

June 6, 2017

Former Lansing School District Board President Peter Spadafore announced today he has received endorsements from both the business and labor communities as he works to become an at-large member of the Lansing City Council.

Today, Spadafore received the endorsement of both the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Political Action Committee (LRC-PAC) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 665 PAC.

Business leaders agree that Spadafore is the right choice for City Council.

“The challenges and opportunities facing Lansing require leadership that is willing to collaborate with others in city hall along with regional stakeholders including business, municipal and community leaders,” said Tim Daman, President and CEO of the Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce. “(Peter) has demonstrated a desire to work collaboratively with a regional approach to building a strong community.”

Labor, too, believes Peter Spadafore is the kind of leader Lansing needs to succeed.

“We believe Peter Spadafore will best represent the interests and well-being of union members across the city of Lansing,” said Tom Eastwood, business manager of IBEW Local 665. “Peter’s demonstrated track record of ensuring that labor is a top priority for government across the city is a big reason why we’re pleased to endorse him today.”

Spadafore, who represents the fourth generation of his family to call Lansing home, was previously elected President of the Lansing School Board and currently serves as Secretary. He works as Associate Executive Director for Government Relations for the Michigan Association of School Administrators. Peter is a graduate of James Madison College at Michigan State University where he studied Social Relations and Policy with an emphasis on education policy.

“I’m truly honored to receive endorsements from the business and labor community on the same day because it represents the wide swath of support our campaign is generating across Lansing,” Spadafore said. “Only through working together will we pave the way for Lansing’s success and make it a city where people want to live, work, and raise their families.

“I’m running to return Lansing’s priorities back where they belong – the people,” Spadafore said. “Lansing families deserve safe and reliable roads, great public schools, and more good-paying jobs. It’s great to know I have the endorsement of organizations that know I can get the job done.”
