Peter Spadafore Announces Bid For At-Large City Council Seat

The former president of the Lansing School District Board of Education has decided to throw his hat in the ring and run for election to one of the Lansing City Council’s open at-large seats in November 2017.

Peter Spadafore, a resident of Lansing, will prioritize good governance, regional collaboration, and economic growth across the entire city as part of his bid for the council seat. Spadafore officially filed his candidacy paperwork on Tuesday.

“We must ensure the entire city and region benefit from a shared economic vision so all citizens benefit from our progress,” Spadafore said. “I will work tirelessly to restore confidence and trust in both our city government and in our long term investment strategies for the city, ensuring that Lansing continues its transformation into a place where jobs, housing, and infrastructure are top priorities.”

Spadafore has a long track record of making a difference in the city of Lansing. As President of the Lansing School Board, Spadafore led the district to a successful school bond issue in 2016 – taxpayers voted for hundreds of millions of dollars to be invested in our local schools under his leadership. Spadafore wants to put the same passion to work for our city, making Michigan’s capital city a place where people want to live, work, and raise their families.

Spadafore was first elected to the Lansing School Board in November 2011 and currently serves as its Secretary. He is a graduate of James Madison College at Michigan State University where he studied Social Relations and Policy with an emphasis on education policy and homeland security studies. He was also a fellow in the prestigious Michigan Political Leadership Program fellowship and named one of Lansing’s 10 Over The Next Ten for 2013 and Distinguished Young Alumni by the Michigan State University Alumni Association in 2015.

With a long career in public education policy, Spadafore currently works as the Associate Executive Director of Government Relations for the Michigan Association of School Administrators. At MASA, Spadafore works to advocate on behalf of K-12 educators across the state.
