Weekend Retreat 2012

The board held another retreat, this one a little longer and with a little bit more substance on the agenda. Although all the items on the agenda were discussion based, the board did move forward with the plan to hire an interim superintendent to help stabilize the district while we search for a new permanent superintendent.

The Education of Lansing's Children

The agenda that was posted for last night’s board meeting was pretty routine. It involved a highlight of the Everett High School Marching Band, an update on the Promise Zone, reports from the Junior Board and a progress report on the Student Achievement Plan. However, reports in the media aroused speculation that the board would also be discussing restructuring, more specifically, that the board would be discussing closing of high schools.

With nine candidates, that’s a fair question. My answer to this question is simple—I have the experience and the vision to be a great addition to the Lansing School Board. My career has focused on crafting education policy that puts student achievement first. I have a proven track record of consenus building, and I understand how to work with large groups of varied interests to reach solutions that are good for kids.
